If you are following along on Instagram (@mamawrites), you’ll know we are participating in #bookishplay this month: encouraging kids to have stronger connections to books through sharing book-inspired play! We’ve been enjoying some fun activities all month, and this week is my favourite! It’s all about enjoying everyday life and moments together.
We are back for another round of #bookishplay, this week we are focusing on feelings with one of our all-time favourite books, The Pout Pout Fish! If you’ve checked out our Little Library section you’ll know that my girls love books. We’ve joined a movement on instagram (@mamawrites) to inspire young readers to have fun with the books they read through play!
We’ve joined a fun creative movement over on instagram (@mamawrites) to inspire book based play in little readers! Let’s get our kids excited about books through fostering stronger connections to reading. My girls love to play and to read, so why not combine these two loves and have a whole lot of fun?

I love me a slow Sunday morning. Staying in pjs, sipping coffee, and taking my sweet time to get the day started. I mean, that is until the kids start fighting 😉 Nonetheless, maybe it’s Sunday’s fault that Monday mornings get such a bad rap. Monday can feel like a hard shift back to reality, but, a few simple changes to your morning routine can start your week off on a positive note.
I’m so excited to share a little space of our home that we recently made over: the girls’ playroom! Our kids are ages two and four right now and it seems like all they are playing with is a random assortment of toys stuffed in ziplock bags … can anyone relate? #why
There is too much stuff, zero order, and it’s leading to less play and more chaos.
Time for a change.
Spring has truly sprung! April brought a little rain, so much sunshine, and promises of summer on the way! We had a busy month prepping for our business’ prime season, so we found some balance playing outdoors with the girls. No agenda, no place to be, just good old fun outdoor play. The sunshine is so refreshing after a long winter and we are going to ride the outdoor play-all-day mantra for the next six months straight. Since the month seemed to fly by, I’ll keep this monthly recap short and sweet!
Below are a few of my favourite things for April!
Today is Earth Day! V came home from preschool this week excited to tell us things that we can do to celebrate Earth Day: help pick up garbage in our community and conserve water and power were the two items on her list. We devoted some time to both of these things, and hope you had the chance to get out with your kids and pitch in, too!
Spring is here! And that, my friends, is worth celebrating! My oldest daughter is in preschool, and a few times a year they have a celebration and shared snack at school. Last week they had a Spring party and I couldn’t resist these sweet little lady bug pretzels! We usually stick to healthy snacks, but Vienna loves lady bugs and the colour red, so I knew she’d be especially excited to share these with her friends! These would also work great for a Valentine’s party, too!
