September Events

September 1- 15

Kikinee Festival 
Date: September 10, 2022 10 am – 3 pm
Location: Mission Creek Regional Park, 2363 Springfield Rd., Kelowna
What: Celebrate the spectacle of spawning salmon! A full day of activities including: guided walks along the spawning channel with park interpreters; learn about syilx culture from Wildrose Native Traditions; arts and crafts; face painting and balloon animals; and live music and entertainment.

Grizzli Winery Outdoor Cinema
Date: September 16, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Doors open at 6:30- arrive early to to grab snacks, seats & play some lawn games.
Location: 2550 Boucherie Rd, Kelowna
What: Outdoor Cinema, Legally Blonde! Meet in the Grizzli Vineyard Pavilion for a wine country version of a night at the drive-in. Set up your lawn chair and picnic blankets while munching on freshly popped kettle corn & snacks from food trucks on site, and enjoy some on-site wine, too!
Cost: $10/person; kids 6 & under free but must be accompanied by an adult

Grizzli Winery Outdoor Cinema
Date: September 17, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Doors open at 6:30- arrive early to to grab snacks, seats & play some lawn games.

Kelowna Scavenger Hunt-Operation City Quest
Date: September 17, 10 am – 9 pm
Location: 1430 Water St., Kelowna
What: Take a tour of the city in the most unique way with Kelowna Operation City Quest! The scavenger hunt adventure game is all walking, and perfect for family fun and team-building activity. Operation City Quest is an open world scavenger hunt, where you use your smartphone to seek out items in the city and complete challenges.

Kelowna Art Gallery Family Sunday 
Date: September 18, 45 min timeslots from 12 pm – 3 pm
Location: Kelowna Art Gallery
What: Enjoy an exciting art activity based on one of the gallery’s current exhibitions. Create a unique piece of artwork to take home with you while having fun exploring materials and techniques. This week: Kelowna Art Gallery Collection “Master Copies”

Kelowna Friends of Library Big September Book Sale
Date: September 19, 1 pm – 8 pm, September 20-21, 9 am – 8 pm
Location: Kelowna Curling Club, 551 Recreation Ave, Kelowna
What: Bargain books for all ages | CDs, DVDs, puzzles & games. Fresh stock added each day.

Vernon Arts and Culture Festival: Provincial Kick-off of BC Culture Days
Date: September 23rd, from 10 am-late!
Location: Polson Park, Highway 6, Vernon
What:  A full day of family activities, music, dance, visual arts, culture, heritage, history and more! Polson Artisan Night Market will have 40 vendors and local food trucks. Live Music and Performances will be on the bandstand from 10 am to late, starting with children’s performances. Additional events include 30 activity tents, art demos, storytelling, live music, and artisan booths. Children’s activities will include sing-a-longs and storytelling, crafts, fossil digs and art projects, a colouring contest, Japanese origami and calligraphy, and face painting.

Kettle Valley Movie in the Park
Date: September 23, 2022 6 pm to 10 pm
Location: Providence Park, 5636 Jasper Way, Kelowna
What: This annual Kettle Valley Neighbourhood Movie in the Park brings all ages together for an evening of family entertainment in a safe ‘walk-to’ environment. The movie will be preceded by a one hour period of games and activities while everyone gets settled with chairs and blankets into the outdoor viewing space.
Cost: A suggested donation of $5 per person or $20 per family (4 or more).

Kelowna Scarecrow Festival 
Date: September 25, 11 am – 4 pm
Location: 1785 Gray Road, Rutland Lions Park
What: The 12th annual Scarecrow Festival includes a scarecrow building competition, local vendors, local performers, food and fun for everyone!

Kelowna Art Gallery Family Sunday

BEARS Guided tour 
Date: September 28, 10 am – 11 am and 11 am – 12 pm
Location: Mission Creek Regional Park, 2363A Springfield Road, Kelowna
What: Learn all about the bears of the Okanagan, including how to spot the differences between the bears and bear safety, as well as seeing a real bear pelt and other artifacts.

Culture Days at the Westbank Museum
Date: September 30, 6pm – 9 pm
Location: Westbank Museum, 2376 Dobbin Rd, West Kelowna
What: A presentation on Ukrainian culture, Ukraine treats available to try, a table where you can purchase Ukrainian crafts, which the proceeds of will support Ukrainians in need, and more.

Recurring September Events

Chattin’ About Salmon
Date: Weekends in September from 11 am – 3 pm
Location: Mission Creek Regional Park, 2363A Springfield Road, Kelowna
What: Chat with park interpreters and learn about the lifecycle of Kokanee salmon. Thousands of salmon leave Okanagan Lake in late August and swim upstream to spawn in their natal waters. Get an up-close look at the salmon and deepen your understanding of what makes these land-locked salmon special.
Cost: Free drop-in anytime during this time frame. Registration not required.

Kelowna Fruit n Veggies Corn Maze
Date: Monday – Saturday 10 am – 3 pm September – October 31
Location: 2190 Cooper Road, Kelowna
What: A massive 5 acres with corn stalks towering above at 8-10 feet high. The maze features a Farm Scene Investigation game that requires you to find the hidden clues throughout the maze and solve the mystery of who kidnapped farmer Joe! Expect to be exploring for an hour to an hour and a half.

Smokies & S’mores
Date: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 pm – 6 pm September – November
Location: 3975 June Springs Road, Kelowna
What: Roast your own S’mores, enjoy mulled wine or hot chocolate by the fire, and go on a fall scavenger hunt! Pass for 2 includes:
Local honey smokies dinner, s’mores pack, Mulled Mead or Hot Chocolate, Wine tastings

Gellatly Nut Farm Tours
Date: September 18, 1 pm- 2 pm and 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm; September 28 10 am – 11 am and 11:30 am – 12:30 pm and October 1, 10 am -11 am and 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Location: Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park is a 4-hectare park located on the shores of Okanagan Lake at 2375 Whitworth Road, West Kelowna
What: Discover the history and heritage of B.C.’s oldest working nut farm. Enjoy a look at the nut harvest process from behind-the-scenes.
Cost: After your special tour, harvest one pound of nuts for $5 with proceeds going to the Gellatly Nut Farm Society. Registration required.

October Events

Spiders at Mission Creek
Date: October 5, 10:30 am and 11:30 am
Location: Mission Creek Regional Park, 2363 Springfield Road, Kelowna
What: A nature-based presentation before heading out for a walk to further explore the park.
Cost: Free

Family Glo Run
Date: October 7, check-in will take place at Heritage Park from 6 – 7 pm. The race begins at 7:30 pm.
Location: Heritage Park, 1st St & Beach Ave, Peachland
What: Enjoy a stroll or run with the whole family and light up the night! Starting at Peachland’s Heritage Park, this all-ages event will include a 5K run or a 3K walk or run along scenic Beach Ave. This event is all about fun! Dress up in your best and brightest clothing!

Culture Days at the Westbank Museum
Date: October 7, 9 am – 1 pm
Location: Westbank Museum, 2376 Dobbin Rd, West Kelowna
What: Check out the annual blacksmithing demonstration with local blacksmith, Bruce Armon. Watch him forge and craft several different items, and learn more about the art of blacksmithing. Lakeview Coffee Lab will also be at the museum in the morning for this event!

Kokanne Salmon Guided Tour
When: October 7, 10 am – 11 am
Location: Mission Creek Regional Park, 2363 Springfield Road, Kelowna
What: Learn all about Kokanee salmon from an EECO Park interpreter. Afterwards join a play and picnic time. Each ticket purchased will include a booklet about kokanee salmon.
Cost:  All attendees aged 2+ require a ticket; adults must purchase tickets as well.

Culture Days at the Westbank Museum
Date: October 7, 2 pm – 4 pm
Location: Westbank Museum, 2376 Dobbin Rd, West Kelowna
What: A presentation on the history of Francophone culture in the Okanagan, followed by a musical showcase with local artist & BC Culture Days Ambassador, Élodie Orsei.

Halloween DJ Skate

Halloween Wheel of Wonder

What: Grab a flashlight and experience a night at the museum filled with wonder, mystery and fun. Who let THAT out of the vault when the lights went out?!

Babies and Boos
Date: October 28
Location: Okanagan Heritage Museum, 470 Queensway Ave, Kelowna
What: Dress your babies up in their costumes and join us for this fun Halloween storytime event! We’ll be reading age-appropriate stories, singing some spooky songs, and allowing time and space for you and your babies to crawl around and explore. Recommended for ages 0-2.
Cost: $2 per child to register and this cost can be redeemed against an instore purchase.

Spooky Swamp Swim
Date: October 29, 2 pm – 4 pm
Location: Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre, 3737 Old Okanagan Highway, West Kelowna
What: Spooky Swamp Swim and halloween themed games!
Cost: $8 Admission / person (no punch cards or passes accepted). Registration required.

Spooky Halloween Party
Date: October 29 multiple time slots
Location: Once Upon a Bookstore
What: Show off your halloween costumes as you listen to a favourite halloween story, decorate a halloween cookie, find ingredients to make a witch’s brew and get to take home a bag of treats! As an added bonus parents get 10% off their purchases that day.
Cost: $10/child, registration is required

Spooktacular Pumpkin Walk
Date: October 29, 5 pm – 8 pm
Location: Mission Creek Regional Park
What: Dress up for Halloween and tour park paths lit up by jack-o-lanterns. Vote for your favourites. All ages welcome; please keep your dogs at home.
Cost: Free drop-in, no registration required.

Halloween Treat Trail
Date: October 29, 11 am – 2 pm
Location: Mission Park Shopping Centre
What: The Halloween Treat Trail is a fun family event full of entertainment and activities. Dress up in your best Halloween costume and to take part in the centre-wide trick-or-treating and fun activities, including: by Donation Photobooth; Face Painting & Glitter Tattoos; Amazing Prize Give-Aways; Kelowna Fire Truck; Stilt Walkers and Balloon Artists and more!

Family Monster Bash
Date: October 29, 30, 31 6 pm – 10 pm
Location: Capital News Centre
What: Activities including an obstacle course, bouncy house, active games on the field, Halloween-themed games, face painting, zorb soccer, free skate, prizes, treats and more! This free Halloween event is perfect for the whole family (ages 2-12 years recommended). All children must be accompanied by an adult. Concession will be open. Skate rentals will be available. Don’t forget your helmet!
Cost:  Entry by donation. Proceeds go to KGH Mental Health.

Black Mountain Haunted House
Date: October 30, 11 am – 2 pm
Location: 1850 Linda Court, Kelowna
What: Check out this annual Haunted House display! Free Hot Chocolate and Popcorn. There will be raffle prizes and a Halloween photobooth for pictures!

Halloween Pony Rides
Date: October 30, 10 am – 12:30 pm
Location: Kyra Londos Training Stables, 6127 Fathers Place, Kelowna
What: Join us on our safe large pony and horses as we lead you around the pasture or arena. Pony rides are suitable for ages 3+. Riders should be strong enough to hold themselves upright. Make sure to wear your Halloween costumes as the ponies and horses will be dressed up as well!

Halloweenie at Grizzli Winery
Date: October 31, 2 pm – 6 pm

What: This fun, safe and indoor event is back for a third year! A ‘lights on’ family and pet friendly event, where you can relax while your little ones have fun! Activities include a scavenger hunt, coloring stations, tons of fun and games, and trick or treating! Dress up in your best costumes (dogs too)!

Trick or Treaing at Orchard Park Mall

What: Back for the first time since 2019! In partnership with Sun Rype, mall vendors will be handing out candy to kids starting at 3 pm.

Fall Festival
Date: October 31, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Location: Willow Park Church, 439 Hwy 33 W Kelowna
What:Dress up in a fun family friendly costume and collect lots of treats along the indoor candy trail with over 40 collection stops. There will also be bounce houses, hot chocolate, balloons and more!  This event is perfect for younger children as it is a non-scary event.

Field of Screams

What: This infamous corn maze event will feature 18 nights of terror with four different mazes each with its own specific horror movie genre theme. This year’s theme is a throwback to the very first ever Field of Screams that debuted in 2015 which featured plots from multiple cinematic horror films!

Haunted House at the Museum
