Rowen’s Nautical Nursery

Nurseries are my favourite room in the house to decorate. Ok, maybe my only. There is just something so special about picking out all the sweet little things for a new baby. And, it’s pretty much the only place in the house that stays tidy with multiple kids– can any one relate? I LOVED creating this nautical nursery for baby Rowen, and I’m excited to share the details on my new favourite space in the house!

Furniture

I wanted to buy a few new furniture pieces for Rowen’s room, including a new rocker and a change table that could be used as a dresser. I’ve learned that investing in a few quality pieces is worth it in the long run. Our white glider is from Pottery Barn Kids and it is my favourite place to sit with Rowen! We use it for reading stories and nursing/bottles, and it’s such a cozy, peaceful little spot! The nursery isn’t very big, so this smaller chair is the perfect size. Plus, it comes in an endless array of colours.

I love having a side table for a lamp, and maybe even my coffee if all the stars align one morning! 😉 We also needed a smaller dresser given the room size; if you are short on space I highly recommend using a dresser for your change table! This dresser from Pottery Barn Kids, is the perfect size. And, the navy colour with bronze handles is so gorgeous and makes for a great contrast piece with the white furniture. Both the white crib & mattress (non toxic and water proof– two must haves in my opinion) are passed down from Aria.

Decor

Before Rowen was born I went to a local DIY class to paint the oar for Rowen’s nursery. It turned out so beautiful and it’s perfect for this space! The art above the chair is the night sky on the night of Rowen’s birthday– how cool is that? It’s so beautiful and unique, and simple enough to stay in his room as he grows (he won’t ever grow up though, right?).

The bookshelves are from Ikea, and are perfect for displaying a few favourites, or rotating our holiday book collections. Each of the kids have a maternity photo from my pregnancy with them in their rooms, and it makes for the perfect sentimental touch in a nursery. We use the shelves above the change table to display a few keepsake gifts– how cute is that little Ford truck the dealership we use got us? I added an oversize bronze star mobile for the corner, which ties together the bronze and star elements in the room.

Bedding & Linens

Our favourite sheets are bamboo! They are so soft and cuddly. We love this simple grey sheet from Bambie and Birdie. Rowen’s nautical blanket (which we use on the chair) is from Aden and Anais (we also love their baby swaddle blankets!) and the decorative whale pillow is from Pehr Deigns. We love Kyte Baby sleep sacks, they are incredible and the softest material. The black out curtains are Rugby stripe from Pottery Barn– I love how classic they are. I used the nautical rope curtain rod from Aria’s nursery.

I love this sweet little space SO much. We didn’t have a huge space to work with– or a huge budget– and I love how it all came together. You can check out Aria’s nursery (which was also nautical!) and Vienna’s (this was her room as a toddler, her nursery was pre-blogging). What are your favourite nursery pieces? xo

  1. Beautifully done! I love that you could easily transition out of the nautical also with a few small changes so the big items should last a long time and grow with baby.

  2. I remember when I was setting up for my kids nursery room. Now I’m planning on redecorating for a 10 year old. Time sure flies by quick.
