Nothing says Valentines like a cute little love bug! My girls love ladybugs, and these sweet little treats are such a hit! These are perfect for school parties, play dates, or just for making your little ones’ day special! And, if you are in need of easy snacks, then you’ve come to the right place. (For those of you that follow along, you know that I love anything that requires minimal time and simple ingredients). Here are three Love Bug snacks sure to steal some hearts!
Happy Valentines Day! xo
Love Bug Oreos
YOU NEED
- Parchment or wax paper
- 1 package of Oreos
- 1 Bag of red candy melts
- Valentines sprinkles
- Candy eyeballs
DIRECTIONS
- Melt the red candy melt chocolate on the stove or in the microwave, stir every 30 seconds
- Pour melted chocolate into small dish (something deep, you’ll be dipping the cookies in it)
- Dip one Oreo 3/4 into the chocolate
- Place on wax paper
- Cover chocolate dipped portion with Valentines sprinkles
- Take two candy eyes, dip in chocolate then place on front of the Oreo (where there are no chocolate/sprinkles)
- Let cookies dry on wax paper until chocolate is hardened
- Repeat for each Oreo
Love Bug Strawberries
YOU NEED
- Parchment or wax paper
- 1 package of strawberries
- 1 bag of black or dark brown chocolate melts (black can be hard to find!)
- Black decorator icing
- Candy eyeballs
DIRECTIONS
- Wash and dry strawberries
- Cut the stems off of each strawberry
- Make a small V cut at the base of the strawberry where the stem was
- Melt the candy melt chocolate on the stove or in the microwave, stir every 30 seconds
- Pour melted chocolate into a small dish (something deep, you’ll be dipping the strawberries in it)
- Dip one strawberry 1/4 of the way into the chocolate
- Place on wax paper
- Immediately add two candy eyes on the dipped chocolate part (important to do right away, so that the chocolate doesn’t harden!)
- Repeat for all of the strawberries
- Take black decorator icing and make black lady bug dots on the strawberry. Use a toothpick if you don’t have a writing tip.
- Let strawberries dry on wax paper. Serve immediately (putting the strawberries in the fridge can cause the candy eyes to run).
Love Bug Pretzels
YOU NEED
- Parchment or wax paper
- 1 bag of pretzel twists, larger size is better
- 1 bag of red candy melts
- Small amount of baking chocolate, dark or milk
- Black decorator icing*
- Candy eyeballs
- Writing Tip
DIRECTIONS
- Lay the pretzels on a cutting board covered in parchment paper
- Set aside 16 candy melts (or # equal to the desired total number of lady bugs)
- Melt the remaining red candy melts on the stove or in the microwave, stir every 30 seconds
- Using a teaspoon, spoon melted red chocolate onto each pretzel, carefully smoothing it with the back side of the spoon. I used a couple of teaspoons per pretzel. You essentially want to fill up the pretzel “holes” with the chocolate).
- Let pretzels sit and dry for approximately 20 minutes or until chocolate is hardened
- Use a writing tip to apply black icing dots on the lady bug
- Melt a small amount of dark or milk chocolate
- Individually dip remaining candy melts into melted chocolate until fully coated in brown and immediately place onto each lady bug body (as the head). *Make sure to apply it at the single rounded side of the pretzel (i.e. not the two loop side, which will be the wings).
- Carefully apply eyes to each head while chocolate is still wet
- Let dry until ready to serve
