Family Weekend Itinerary in Sunny Osoyoos BC

Osoyoos BC offers Canada’s warmest welcome … need I say more?! We recently visited this sweet and friendly town in the Okanagan Valley for a weekend of family fun and it did not disappoint! This sunny little town is surrounded by beautiful vineyards and Canada’s warmest freshwater lake. Located just 1 hour and 45 minutes from Kelowna, and not quite 5 hours from Vancouver, it’s the perfect spot for a weekend away! Today I’m sharing where to stay, where to eat and what to do for a family weekend in Osoyoos, BC.

Our stay was graciously hosted by Destination Osoyoos and the businesses shared below; all views shared in this post are my own.

Where to Stay

We were welcomed to Spirit Ridge, an all suite resort with 226 condos and villas, two outdoor pools,  two hot tubs, an on-site fitness centre and spa, and an incredible restaurant! Our spacious villa (Chardonnay 12— highly recommend!) included two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and living room. The patio had incredible views of Osoyoos Lake, the perfect place to enjoy a glass of Okanagan wine.

Favourite things about Spirit Ridge:

  • Resort-style property with great amenities
  • Spacious, comfortable and nicely appointed suites
  • Heated outdoor pool (definitely warm enough for year-round swimming)
  • Kid-friendly
  • The view!

Where to Eat

The Market at Spirit Ridge

After check-in we headed to The Market to order pizzas to-go. This convenient little shop offers fresh, handcrafted pizza for take-away. They serve the basics (Cheese and Pepperoni, of course!) and a few unique options, I loved Miss Summer’s Delight. We enjoyed our pizza from the comfort of our villa patio— a nice option with the kids! The Market also serves coffee and pastries in the morning.

The Bear, The Fish, The Root & The Berry

Spirit Ridge is located on the traditional land of the Syilx people of the Okanagan Nation. The Bear, The Fish, The Root and The Berry is a must-visit, with a menu inspired by local Indigenous Roots. The Four Food Chiefs: Black Bear, Chinook Salmon, Bitterroot, and Saskatoon Berry, represent the key elements of Indigenous cuisine. Our meal was incredible– if you’re looking for dinner recommendations, its the Slow Braised Cache Creek Natural Beef Back Ribs and Pacific Lingcod for us! They have a great kids menu—ranging from grilled cheese to burgers to salmon—and our entire family enjoyed the Bannock and Spreads (see below!). They also have a delicious drink menu featuring locally inspired cocktail and and an extensive local wine list.

JoJos Cafe

While in Osoyoos you must visit JoJos Café for coffee or breakfast! Located on Main street, this café has the friendliest staff, delicious baked goods—my kids made us go back a second time for more blueberry muffins— and, of course, great coffee! If you’re there for breakfast, we recommend the breakfast sandwich and the house-made granola with greek yogurt is delicious. JoJo’s also proudly supports local businesses and artists—don’t miss out on supporting this local gem during your visit!

Junction 3 Coffee House

On out way out of town we stopped at Junction 3 Coffee House for breakfast and coffee to-go. But, we couldn’t resist staying to eat our breakfast in one of their domes, free for customers to use. The menu is simple and easy, and sometimes that is very welcomed when trying to order for a family of 5! They have great breakfast wraps and the kids loved the grilled cheese. The service is fast and friendly and the coffee is excellent, too!

What to Do

Covert Farm Family Estate

We spent Saturday at Covert Farms Family Estate, a kid-friendly organic farm and winery located 30 minutes outside of Osoyoos in Oliver. We had the best day enjoying incredible food and wine—including two charcuterie boards, one just for kids and one for adults— and having fun and learning on the farm. You can meet the resident animals (we all fell for Mr. Pickles, the pig) and our kids loved all of the games, especially the large jumping pillow. We can’t wait to visit again and enjoy their campfire cookout experience.

When you visit try the Epicurean Grand Reserve Tasting which includes 7 wines from their award-winning portfolio, including newly certified organic releases, grand reserves and méthode ancestrale sparkling wine served with a locally sourced board of artisanal cheeses, cured meats, pickles, olives, crackers, and seasonal produce grown right at the farm. During the tasting you will learn the history of the fourth-generation family-run farm, which makes for a great tasting experience while the kids are entertained on the farm. A wine tasting while in wine country is a must, and if you have children in tow this is the place!

Scoopsies Treat Shop

No family vacation would be complete without a little sweet treat! We visited Scoopies Treat Shop not once, but twice, because it’s that good! This cute little main street shop is serving up the sweetest treats, served by equally sweet staff. Stop in to enjoy their selection of ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes, cupcakes, baked goods and candy!

We also enjoyed time at the resort pool and exploring the many shops along Main Street. If you’re planning a visit to Osoyoos, check out Destination Osoyoos for plenty more recommendations and trip planning information! You can also see the highlights of our trip on Instagram. xo
