It’s time to ring in 2023! Here is my annual guide to family-friendly New Year’s activities happening around the Okanagan. Enjoy one of the incredible fireworks displays, take in the annual family activities and celebrations in downtown Kelowna, or visit a nearby ski hill for some winter fun. And, if you are brave enough, check out the annual Kelowna Polar Bear dip in support of local charity on January 1. Happy New Year!

December 31

Valley First New York New Years

When: December 31, 6 pm – 9 pm
Where: Stuart Park, 1430 Water Street, Kelowna
What: This annual celebration is full of free fun for the whole family, including live music; a “Snow Zone” full of activities and games; skating; food trucks; and a fireworks show at 9 pm!

SilverStar New Years Eve

When: December 31,  5 pm
Where: SilverStar Mountain Resort Village
What: Enjoy a magical evening in your very own snow globe this New Year’s Eve at SilverStar!  Lots of glimmering lights, hot chocolate, s’mores around the fire, and a magnificent fireworks display. The event begins with a torch light parade into the village at 5 pm!

Big White New Year’s Eve

When: December 31, 8:15 pm and 12 am
Where: Big White Ski Resort
What: Two spectacular firework displays will light up the skies of Big White! The first show will take place in Happy Valley at 8:15 pm;  the second show brings in the New Year in the Village Centre at midnight.

January 1

Polar Bear Dip

When: January 1st, 1 pm -3 pm, dip happens at 2 pm sharp!
Where: Tugboat Beach (1200 Water Street) Kelowna
What: Kelowna’s Annual Polar Bear Dip in support of the Community Recreational Initiatives Society (CRIS). Music, prizes, and food trucks will be on site. Tickets required to participate in the dip, spectators welcome by donation.
