It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Who’s ready to take in all the Christmas fun?! Y’all know we love holidays, and the lead up to Christmas is truly one of my favourite times of the year. Below you’ll find tons of fun winter family events, from town light-ups, to Santa visits, to holiday market shopping. Wishing you all a magical, merry, holiday season! Kelowna Christmas Tree Farms

Christmas Tree Farms

Kick off the holiday season by decorating your Christmas tree! And, if you’re extra festive, head to a local tree farm to get your Christmas tree. Grumpy’s Tree Farm is by far the most recommended tree farm in Kelowna. You can help saw down your own tree, and enjoy a campfire with hot chocolate, apple cider, and cookies with your family. It doesn’t get more magical than that! Grumpy’s Tree Farm is located off June Springs Rd. Make sure you check the opening times and dates for each of the tree farms; contact them at the info below.

Mission Hill Winery Festival of Trees
When: Friday November 22 – Friday January 4, 10 am – 6 pm daily (November 22 open house featuring live music and events)
What: Mission Hill’s beautiful estate will be transformed into a dazzling forest of brilliantly decorated trees that evoke the colours, fragrances, and wonder-inducing spirit of the season. Local residents, and visitors, who view the display are invited to vote for their favourite tree in the form of a donation to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Summerland Festival of Lights
When: November 29, 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Highlights: 5:00 pm (Santa Parade); 7:00 pm (Light up & Fireworks)
What: This is well worth the drive from Kelowna! Enjoy children’s crafts and activities, live music, food vendors, shopping, a Santa parade and end the night with an amazing fireworks display. This is one of my family’s favourite holiday events!

Silver Star Mountain Christmas Light Up 
When: November 29, 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm
What: A fun filled night of activities, including local crafts and talents, hot food and drinks, sleigh rides, fire dancers, fireworks, Santa Claus and more. All in the heart of our mountain village. This is one fun-filled night you’ll definitely not want to miss out on! New this year: $10 sightseeing rides ($30 for 4) on the gondola! There’s nothing quite like seeing the village lights from the top of the mountain inside a cozy gondola cabin. The gondola will be running from 5 pm to 7:30 pm with last cabin loading at 7:20 pm.

Light up Big White 
When: November 30, 6:00 pm
What: The evening kicks off at 6:00pm with a laser show that dances through the Village like the northern lights. Make sure you are in the perfect position outside by 6:30 pm to experience the magic of thousands of LED Lights all coming to life at once. Big White skies will then be lit up by a spectacular firework display.

Downtown Kelowna Light-up 
When: December 1, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm
What: A full day of family friendly activities around Kelowna’s downtown! Arts and crafts, live entertainment, holiday movies, and more!On Water Street indulge in some festive sweets and treats, munch on some delicious street food, or sip your hot chocolate by a cozy fire. At Stuart Park you will find live entertainment, activities for all ages, skating, food, and don’t forget – Santa! The evening will end with lighting up the giant tree downtown.

Uptown Rutland Light-up 
When: December 8, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
What: Crafting, caroling,face painting, Santa, hot chocolate, cookies, and so much more! Official Light up is scheduled for 5pm at Roxby Square.

Winter Magic at Gellatly Nut Farm
When: December 21 & 22, 4 pm – 7 pm
What: Celebrate the wonder of winter and enjoy lights in the nut orchard at Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park. Winter Magic returns for a second year featuring a beautiful light display, tours, hot cocoa and carolers! Festivities on December 21 and 22 include carolers, hot chocolate (bring your own mug), and tours of the Farm House by Gellatly Nut Farm Society volunteers. Or, take a self-guided tour of the lights from December 18 to 20.

Big White Christmas Eve Festival 
When: December 24, 5:15 pm – 6:30 pm
What: Santa & the Grinch, photo booths, hot chocolate & treats, ornament decorating, live music, and more! End the night with the annual Christmas Eve fireworks display at 6:30 pm

Christmas Light Tours & Displays

Christmas Light Up

Candy Cane Lane is a popular place for a holiday light tour. Many houses on this road decorate for Christmas and you can drive or walk the street. If it’s snowing out we like pulling the kids in a sleigh! Parking  is generally easy, and don’t forget to take your donation to the Kelowna Food Bank (drop bin is located on the corner).

Skating & Winter Activities

Outdoor Skating in Kelowna

Is there anything more Canadian than skating outdoors? The outdoor skating rink at at Stuart Park is not to be missed. Buy some hot chocolate from one of the on-site vendors and warm up around the fire after your skate. Skate and helmet rentals are available on-site.

Rocky Mountain High Christmas

What: An amazing music celebration of John Denver’s best-known and timeless hits, as well as some of your favourite JD Christmas songs. The performances feature the OSO, Rick and Steve Worrall, the RMH band, soprano Melina Schein, tenor Justin Moore, a youth choir under the direction of Gwen Plitt, and much more. A portion of every ticket sold will go to help raise funds for two amazing organizations: the Boys and Girls Club of the Okanagan, and the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

Christmas Dreams: A Cantata by Joseph Martin & Heather Sorenson

What: Join the Kelowna Community Chorus, and special guests Three to the Bar, for Christmas Dreams: A Cantata by Joseph Martin and Heather Sorenson as performed by our choir at Carnegie Hall.

A Christmas Choral Fundraiser
When: November 30, 6:30 pm
What: White Sails A Cappella Chorus presents, A Christmas Choral(with apologies to Charles Dickens). A new twist on the Christmas classic. Join White Sails A Cappella Chorus for an evening of fantastic barbershop harmonies, light refreshments and silent auction. Proceeds from the silent auction and 50/50 draw will be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Living Nativity
When: December 6-8, daily show times range from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm. This is a free family event!
What: Enjoy a musical drama suitable for all ages, called “One King and a Baby”. Then, take a walk through some amazing Christmas scenes from the 70’s while enjoying hot drinks and cookies. The kids will love the Christmas light show out in the parking lot as you leave.

Both choirs join forces to bring to life a reading of Thomas’ ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ with familiar yuletide songs.

Ring the Bells featuring Kelowna Community Gospel Choir

Phoenix Rising Singers Present Dixens’ Christmas Carol Project
When: December 13 & 14
What: Dickens’ Christmas Carol Project promises to be a great addition to your holiday season’s activities. It offers entertainment suitable for the whole family. Enjoy a dramatic reading by local actors. This classic literary work will be made more special by the addition of traditional and new choral pieces performed by Phoenix Rising Singers. The evening performances will have refreshments available prior to the start of the show. Performance goers are encouraged to dress as Victorian characters!

A Christmas Carol

What: Penny-pinching miser Ebenezer Scrooge is well-known across Victorian London for being far more interested in making money than friends. Above all else, he hates Christmas time and its spirit of giving. But on one particular Christmas Eve, several spirits give Ebenezer the surprise of his life, as they whisk him off on a magical journey through past, present and future, to show him the true meaning of the season.

Frosty the Snowman

What: You celebrate every year by watching the animated special that’s been on every holiday season since 1969 now experience the play! The special story follows a group of school children who build a snowman called Frosty and place a magic hat on his head, which makes him come to life with enchanted power.

Christmas Concert by the Kelowna City Band

What: Get in the Christmas spirit with a free concert by the Kelowna City Concert Band. The program comprises festive music and carols, and includes an arrangement of The Night Before Christmas. Admission is free and donations to the food bank are gratefully accepted.

Hear the Music Night- Christmas Kelowna

The Winter Sleigh Ride Show The Nutcracker
When: December 10-11: 5 & 7 PM, December 12-January 4: 4, 6 & 8 PM (Run time approx 60 minutes) Visit the website for ticket pricing info as it varies per sleigh and show time.
What: Crackling fires, hot chocolate, magnificent horses, and the magic and mystery of the Theatre. This winter, get ready for a spectacular retelling of Tchaikovsky’s Holiday Classic: The Nutcracker. The Winter Sleigh Ride Show is a professionally produced theatre production staged in up to five locations, outdoors. The audience is transported from scene to scene by horse-drawn sleigh (or wagon, depending on the snow).

  3. I love the holiday light up that happens downtown!! Great way to get into the holiday spirit. Also, our family enjoys skating on the downtown rink on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day
