Christmas, Once Again

Family Christmas Photo

Another Christmas has come and gone, and this one was one for the books! We truly had the best Christmas with the girls! Vienna is the perfect age for all things Christmas magic, and we loved soaking up every minute of it. Christmas break was late this year, so it seemed like we didn’t have as much of a lead up to Christmas as usual. But, we took the pre-Christmas weekend to do all of our favourite things: decorate cookies & make Christmas goodies, attend our annual family Christmas bowling night with cousins, host Christmas Eve breakfast for our friends, and watch Every. Last. Christmas. Movie. Possible.

We hosted our family’s annual Ukranian Christmas Eve Dinner (wheat, perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht, just to name a few) and the girls opened presents from their Aunts and Uncles and we spent the night visiting with family … a relaxing evening followed by staying up until the early hours of the morning in search of Santa’s misplaced stocking stuffers (this is what I get for being organized). Some of my favourite things on Christmas Eve are matching pjs (obviously), reading the girls a Christmas bedtime story (or ten), and the look of our Christmas tree filled with presents, ready for Christmas morning.

V ended up with a fever late Christmas Eve night and we had to wake her up at 8:45 Christmas morning. Aria was waiting (impatiently) to get out of her crib and Vienna really wanted to be the one get her up.  So sweet. Despite Vienna not feeling so great, the girls had the best Christmas morning! It was just us four first thing in the morning which was so nice … a bit of a slow morning on Christmas if you believe it!

Two of Vienna’s favourite gifts this year were a plasma car and her ballerina music box, so she spent most of the day riding around the house clutching her music box. Aria mostly enjoyed scooping the whip cream out of Grampa’s coffee all morning. 😉 Vienna asked Santa for Elsa gloves and she was so excited to have them! She then wore the gloves to open all of her presents, which slowed things down just a bit.  The girls’ big gift was a dollhouse, which I’m so happy to see Vienna playing with every day with all of her dolls and princesses. It’s like the most beautiful toy ever.

The rest of our family joined us not long after the girls opened their stockings and we drank delicious coffee and ate alllll the cinnamon buns and fried perogies we could. The girls opened their gifts throughout the morning and played all day long. It was the best kind of day.

We’re now into the post-Christmas crash… keeping the tree up to enjoy for just a few more days, watching the snow fall all day long, and reminiscing about what a great time we had. While I’m always sad to see Christmas go, soon we’ll be making plans for a fun-filled 2018! From our family to yours, Merry Christmas! We hope you had the most wonderful Christmas filled with love and laughter. xo
